how many inches are in standard ruler

MT Bell Elementary - Homeschool Journal: Standard Units of Measurement

I've been teaching the kids how to use a ruler and wanted to explain why it's important that we use "standard units of measurement". I came up with a really fun lesson plan and wanted to share it with you. First, I created a worksheet that you can copy and print or at least use as an idea for creating your own:

I then had the kids trace their feet on different colored construction  paper, and cut them out, putting their name on one side. I divided each  cut out with lines to show 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 so they had more than just  one of their feet as a measurement.

liver and gallbladder disease

Attributable to inappropriate food plan and obesity, many people suffer from gall bladder disease. Gall bladder disease commonly impacts obese individuals on account of excessive blood cholesterol levels. The consumption of foods which can be wealthy in fat additionally contributes to the development of gall bladder illness and many people suffer from gall bladder affections as a consequence of inappropriate diet.

Gall bladder disease is normally caused by gallstones, solid constructions formed from ldl cholesterol, calcium and bile salts. Gallstones can cause cholecystitis (irritation and swelling of the gall bladder), choledocholithiasis (happens when gallstones accumulate contained in the bile duct) cholangitis (infection of the gall bladder and bile duct) and pancreatitis.

how do change my primary drive letter back to

windows 7 - Reassigning drive letter for cloned system partition

Since my primary Windows 7 partition (C:) ran out of space, I made a disk image with Seagate Disk Wizard (which seems to be a version of Acronis True Image) and restored the image to a bigger partition (J:) on another harddisk. After that, I added with bcdedit a new bootmanager entry with the information for the Windows version on J:\ and booted into that version.

why is ribulose essential

Ribulose Bisphosphate Carboxylase/Oxygenase (Rubisco) (Molecular Biology)

Ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco) is probably the best-studied plant enzyme, partly because of its great abundance (constituting 30-50% total protein in leaves) but also because of its importance in the metabolism of all cells. By catalyzing carbon dioxide fixation during photosynthesis, this enzyme is responsible for virtually all of the reduced carbon found in living organisms. Rubisco couples the inorganic and organic carbon pools on earth and is the most significant route for linking these pools together by the synthesis of carbohydrate. It is, however, a poor catalyst, having both a low affinity for carbon dioxide and a small turnover number (3s-1). Autotrophic organisms must devote a major part of their synthetic capacity to produce sufficient enzyme to sustain life. The high concentrations of Rubisco and its messenger RNA have provided many opportunities to study the molecular biology of plants. This includes gene organization and gene expression in both nuclei and chloroplasts, protein targeting to chloroplasts, molecular chaperones, enzyme assembly, and many other aspects of plant cell biology.

1. Reactions Catalyzed by Rubisco

Rubisco catalyzes the first reaction in the pathways of both photosynthesis and photorespiration (1), which are respectively its carboxylase and oxygenase activities:

Photosynthesis and photorespiration are interlocking metabolic cycles, with Rubisco determining the relative rates of carbon flow through the two pathways (Fig. 1). Rubisco requires both CO2 and Mg as obligatory cofactors, resulting in carbamylation of an active-site lysine residue by CO2 and coordination of Mg2+ (1, 2).

Figure 1. The reactions catalyzed by Rubisco. The first intermediate of catalysis is the C2,C3 cis-enediol form of ribulose-bisphosphate (ribulose 1,5-P2) after abstraction of the C3 proton. The enediol can partition a number of ways, the majority into the products of carboxylation (upper reactions) or oxygenation (lower reactions). However, a number of misprotonated isomers of ribulose 1,5-P 2, for example, xylulose-bisphosphate, have been detected with the wild- type enzyme that are produced in quantity by mutations of specific amino acid residues involved in proton transfer. Phosphate elimination of the carbanion forms of intermediates are also produced by some mutants. R, —CHOH —CH20P02 v 3P D-glycerate, 3-phospho glycerate; 2P glycolate, 2-phosphoglycolate.

what happened on the final episode of will and grace

Pro Wrestling's Daily News Source

Posted January 23rd, 2012 by jshannon

The Highlight Reel returns to Raw…but will Jericho speak, this time? Also, the Funkasaurus will bring his disco bunnies to dance their way into your hearts.

Roll the opening montage!

Poenix, AZ was the home for this week's episode. Things kicked off with a bang as C.M. Punk's music erupted from the speakers. The crowd popped huge for the rowdy WWE champ. John Laurinaitis will serve as the Special Guest Ref when Punk defends against Dolph Ziggler, at the Royal Rumble. Punk soaked in the cheers of the fans before speaking. Punk said the WWE title match would be huge. Punk touted himself as the best wrestler in the world. Punk said Dolph had beaten him three times in the past month. He did say that the wins were hand delivered to Ziggler by John Laurinaitis. Punk then went off on what a failure John Laurinaitis has been. Punk sent it to video proof that Laurinaitis was ready to screw Punk on Sunday. Laurinaitis then clocked Mick Foley, who was a special guest for the week. Punk was certain that Laurinaitis was prepping to screw him. He hinted that he would break both of Laurinaitis' arms. He then invited Johnny to come out to the ring. He dared Laurinaitis to "take your b*lls out of your purse" and tell Punk, to his face, that he planned to screw him over.

After a long pause, Punk said he would come find Laurinaitis. For some odd reason, John Cena walked from the back. Why? Cena is set to go to war against Kane at Royal Rumble 2012. The crowd was ultra-hostile towards the former champ. Punk thought Cena was confused about which John he wanted. Cena said he was tired of listening to Punk ramble. Cena was out there to demand a rematch for Zack Ryder for the US title and grant him a one-on-one battle against Kane. Cena said he wanted Laurinaitis to resign as the acting General Manager of Raw. Punk said he was cool with that but…

Out strolled John Laurinaitis. He ran down his credentials, again. John said he stands by what he said, last week. He refused to be intimidated by either of them. Punk asked Laurinaitis to come down to the ring so they could hear him. Laurinaitis said Zack Ryder would face Kane, in a Falls Count Anywhere Match. If Cena gets invovled, Zack would forfeit any future rematches. He then put Punk and Cena into a tag team match. Laurinaitis called for a ref.

John Cena and C.M. Punk vs Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger (w/Vickie Guerrero)

Dolph warned Punk that he should be worried about him, not Laurinaitis. Dolph said Laurinaitis didn't need to screw over Punk, because Dolph would just beat Punk. Swagger then said Cena was just dead meat for what he did, last week. John Laurinaitis strolled down, a few steps behind Cougar Talent Agency.

Laurinaitis took a seat at ringside. Dolph and Cena locked up and they went to the corner. Irish Whip intoa Bulldog by Cena for two. Punk took the tag and kicked Dolph. He then Snap Mared him and went for a quick pin. Dolph Floated Over a Suplex. Dolph blocked the GTS and vacated the ring. Raw went to break.

Scientists aboard Iberian coast ocean drilling expedition report early findings

A team of 35 scientists from 14 countries recently returned from an expedition off the southwest coast of Iberia and the nearby Gulf of Cadiz. There the geologists collected core samples of sediments that contain a detailed record of the Mediterranean's history. The scientists retrieved the samples by drilling into the ocean floor during an eight-week scientific expedition onboard the ship JOIDES Resolution.

The group–researchers participating in Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) Expedition 339: Mediterranean Outflow–is the first to retrieve sediment samples from deep below the seafloor in this region.

Much of the sediment in the cores is known as "contourite" because the currents that deposit it closely follow the contours of the ocean basin.

"The recovery of nearly four kilometers of contourite sediments deposited from deep underwater currents presents a superb opportunity to understand water flow from the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean," says Jamie Allan, program director at the National Science Foundation (NSF), which co-funds IODP.

"Knowledge of this water flow is important for understanding Earth's climate history in the last five million years."

"We now have a much greater insight into the distinctive character of contourites, and have validated beyond doubt the existing paradigm for this type of sedimentation," says Dorrik Stow of Heriot-Watt University in the United Kingdom and co-chief scientist for Expedition 339.
